As a Commissioner, Mike’s goal is to ensure that we dedicate our resources to advance the common good and create economic opportunity while preserving an environment that enriches the lives of individuals and families. He has focused on ensuring that Douglas County keeps its commitment to seniors and our most vulnerable neighbors by maintaining social service support at a time when more and more are looking for help. Mike has also focused on workforce development and beginning in 2011, the County’s investment in training will help workers develop the skills that local businesses are looking for today. Mike also believes that tourism can play a bigger role in our local economy and has ensured that Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area and Douglas County Historical Society have the direction and support that vision will require.
Mike has built an impressive resume of public service. He has worked in the offices of Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, Gov. Mark Parkinson and Attorney General Steve Six. His political career began in 2002 when he volunteered on Gov. Sebelius’s and Dennis Moore’s campaigns and he served nearly four years as Executive Director of the Kansas Democratic Party.
