Permanent Advance Voting

A person with a permanent illness or disability may apply at any time to the county election officer for permanent advance voting status using an Application for Permanent Advance Voting Status (PDF format). Once a voter obtains permanent status, the county election officer automatically sends the voter an advance ballot by mail for every election they are eligible to vote in.

The voter must specify the nature of the permanent physical disability or illness that makes it difficult or impossible for the voter to go to the regular polling place to cast a ballot. A permanent advance voting applicant is not required to furnish a physician’s records or signature, but the applicant should be specific as to the nature of the sickness or disability; using “age” or “failing health” is not adequate.

After you have completed the application please return it to our office via email at: elections@douglascountyks.org or via mail at:

  • Douglas County Clerk’s Office

● Unaffiliated voters can change their party affiliation up until election day. This can also be done on ksvotes.org.

● Voters who don’t receive the advance ballot or misplace it can vote provisionally at their polling place.

● The postage is prepaid for mailing the advance ballots.

● A voter can also take the advance ballot to any polling place on election day.

● The county cannot mail advance ballots for the primary until Wednesday,July 15, when advance voting begins. Voters should expect to receive their ballots in the mail by Saturday, July 18 . These dates for the general election are Wednesday, October 14 and Saturday, October 17.

● The county makes every attempt to “cure” advance ballots that have issues, such as incorrect signatures, addresses, etc. In some instances, they send workers to the voter’s residence to get the correct signature. Their commitment provides considerable peace of mind for the advance voter.
